This renovation and extension of a semi-detached house on Eighth Street in New Toronto creates a spacious home for a family of five. Unable to find a suitable new house, the clients chose to renovate their existing one. The project involved adding 19 feet in depth across two stories and a basement, resulting in three bedrooms for the children, a primary suite with a sauna for the parents, and a reconfigured open-plan living area. The extension includes a family area and a home office. Influenced by the client's Finnish heritage and passion for illustration, the design features a Scandinavian style with a neutral palette, contrasting black window frames, and personalized decor. Natural light is maximized through large windows and a central skylight, while the exterior combines white fibre-cement and natural cedar siding for a modern yet timeless appearance.
